A number of testing centers have been identified across the City of Ekurhuleni for citizens to get checked for the deadly corona virus.
More than 80 cases have been confirmed within the metro with no deaths recorded, so far.
By Tuesday April 07, 2020 the national department of health confirmed 13 fatalities and 1 749 infections in South Africa.
South Africa has been locked- down for 21 days until April 16, since March 27, 2020.
Government has ordered citizens to stay at home and not to make unnecessary movements, in a bid to curb the rapid spread of the Covid-19.
Only essential workers including emergency, security and health workers as well as goods producers and suppliers have been exempted from the lockdown period.
Metropolice, South African Police Service and the National Defense Force officers have been deployed nationally to jointly monitor the public and to enforce gazzeted government orders under the disaster management act.
Anyone found in contravention will find themselves facing the full might of the law.
The city of Ekurhuleni has in reaction urged citizens within the metro to abide by government regulations and stay at home.
In a statement announcing the reopening of the Duduza Clinic following a temporary closure the office of the executive Mayor Mzwandile Masina appealed:
“We would like to thank the community of Duduza for playing their part during the closure of the Duduza Clinic. Let us all continue to stay indoors and observe the 21-day national lockdown as declared by President Ramaphosa. We have passed the halfway mark of the nation-wide lockdown and the decisions we make over the next 10 days will define the country’s victory over this devastating pandemic. We dare not fail ourselves."
The Duduza Clinic reopened to operations on Wednesday April, 09, following a temporary closure on April 01, 2020 due to a Covid-19 infection at the facility.This was to allow thorough cleaning and sanitising process to take place.
A nurse suspected to have been a contact of a prayer breakfast in Bloemfontein in March tested positive for the virus. The nurse was placed under self-quarantine to receive medical attention.
Other staff members were also tested and placed under self- isolation after showing symptoms.
45 tests came out negative with 10 others still outstanding.
Residents have also been urged not to sit with signs and symptoms but to rather visit their nearest healthcare facilities if they feel otherwise.
Several medical centers have been identified across the City of Ekurhuleni for testing and screening.
Residents can use the following centres for testing in the Eastern Region:

• Phillip Moyo -Etwatwa Extension 9, Mandela Section
The City of Ekurhuleni has called for calm as it continues to deals with the Covid-19 infections across the metro.
