The President of The Republic of South Africa is set to address the Nation at 7pm tonight on the progression of the nation from stage 4 to 3 of the national lockdown which was implemented to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus.
Following weeks of deliberation and meetings with businesses, labour council and leaders of political parties among others, the President is expected to announce adjustments to the risk adjusted strategy which placed the country in level 4 of the lockdown two months ago.
The question remains; will he tell us what we want to hear?. In his previous address President Ramaphosa promised to address the nation on further adjustments upon holding meetings. The steady increase in Covid-19 new infections also plays a part in reaching a solid decision to proceed to level 3 of the lockdown. In his address on May 13th, Ramaphosa announced that “most of the country” would progress to level 3 at the end of May however some provinces will remain under level 4 depending on the number of Covid-19 active cases, this implies that provinces with the most active cases will remain in level 3 and those with less will proceed to level 3.
The address will be broadcast on various media platforms including on television and radio and other online platforms.
