The family of missing Amahle Thabethe say they still have hope that the little girl will one day return back home safe.
Last Monday (April 6) marked exactly a year since she has been missing. Thabethe, who was 8 years old at the time, was allegedly lured by an unknown man who pretended to be asking for directions while she was playing with her friends near her home, on Sizwe Street in Tsakane Extension 16, on April 6, 2019.
Depite efforts in prayers, campaigns and searches by community members, civil society organisations and law enforcement to try and find her, she is still nowhere to be found.
Her family says her disappearance has since opened a huge gap within the family and it’s been difficult to move forward.
Thabethe’s mother Nokulunga Nkosi has been in and out of hospital due to depression and anxiety.
The Nkosi family has appealed to neighbours and anyone who might have seen or heard any information about where their daughter might be, to speak out.
Amahle's grandfather Thomas Nkosi says they are desperate for some information about their child.
“We are appealing to the abductors, to please have mercy on us and give us our granddaughter back, and to the community at large to please keep us informed and to not keep quiet if they hear of anything.
“Amahle has been missing for so long now, that even her grandmother is not doing well since she has been missing,” adds the child's grandfather.
Members of the public have also continued their efforts to find Amahle by raising awareness through social media campaigns and prayer.
A case of child kidnapping has since been opened to try and dot the whereabouts of the girl.
Gauteng police have also called on anyone with information to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Organisation One Strong Voice (OSV) has also called for Thabethe to be found and reunited with her family. OSV says it has also been informed that police have offered a reward, in an effort to find the girl.
In one of their recent posts on their official Facebook page, OSV continued their call for the safe return of Thabethe:
“ONE STRONG VOICE FOUNDATION calls you to make a difference help find a missing child. It's been a year already the family and Police hasn't (sic) found her, any knowledge on whereabouts of the child is important please come forward. Be the good Samaritan help bring the little girl home. #AmahleThabethe #MPHAKATHI.”
The police have also called on anyone who might have information to contact their nearest police station or call 08600 10111.
